DEVELOPER COMMENTARY

After I finished Yuri in Tower, I felt the need to make another aRPG to fix up on the issues that game had. Long story short, I'm a hack and a complete scam and ended up never making any. However, I had 3 ideas for the game I wanted to make:

And the one most relevant to this:

The story for the game would have been that after Jesus ascended into Heaven (40 days after his revival), he got into an argument with god over suffering and stuff like that and decided to go to Hell to kill Satan to end all misery.

For the religion jam, I kept trying to come up with ideas. I originally had an idea for a cult management/simulation game based on Camdan Jerrard Davis ' purported cult (I was following the MamaMax scandal when it was hot). I had no idea of exactly what the gameplay should be like though, so I gave up on this idea. Another idea was for a comedy visual novel titled "I Became the Leader of a Sex Cult," about the leader of a sex cult who, on his deathbed, appoints a random guy on the streets as the new leader of his cult (to give him the opportunity of having sex for once in his life). I even considered making it an official Emsey game, "Emsey Joins a Cult," though I wasn't really happy with it (as a game, I mean; I think an erotica with this premise would be hilarious).

Then I remembered my old Jesus idea and decided to do that. I didn't really feel like doing any custom battle systems for it, though, so instead I just opened up 2k and started making a basic jRPG with Jesus going to Hell to kill Satan. However, while brainstorming this idea, I just randomly stumbled on a very cool idea for a CBS. The idea was simple: you had a 3x3 grid and had to place 3 bombs on it (with the rule that you can't have 3 bombs in a straight line), and then the enemy had to play minesweeper on it. He would start from right outside his side of the board and could move one tile in any direction (even diagonally). If he reached to outside your side of the board, you took 1 damage, but if he hit a bomb, he took 1 damage. And of course, then the turns swapped. It was cool-ish, but I didn't really like it that much. Then I came up with the idea that ended up in the final version, because it was too cool to not make it.

Most notably about stuff cut out of the game are:

It was very late in development that I decided that I should give some kind of reward to people who can 1cc the game, so I tried to implement a reward for beating each area without dying. I don't know what possesed me to make the reward an extra move but thank god I'm stupid enough to have fucked it up so that it does nothing at all.

Lastly, here's the original design sketches I made while trying to figure out how this game should work:
